The Damaging Nature of Sin
Forgiveness is God’s solution to a problem He calls sin. Sin is an incredibly destructive force. It damages and destroys everything it touches. Sins damge the body, the soul and the spirit. They also damage relationships, the environment and organizations.
Jesus said it this way,
“The thief (sin) comes only to steal, kill and destroy…” John 10:10
All sins are damaging.
Our sins against God
Other people’s sins against us
Our sins against other people
Sins damage and destroy:
Physical bodies
Souls (mind, will and emotions)
Spiritual health
Relationships
The environment
Good processes and systems
To drive home the point of just how destructive sin is, Jesus compared sin to gangrene. He said,
“If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.” Matthew 5:29-30
Sin is like poison. Sin is lethal. Sin is toxic.
